Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, add the yogurt, lemon juice, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt. Mix well.

  • In a pan, melt the butter and add the chopped onion. Saute until the onion turns translucent.
  • Add the garlic and ginger paste and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala. Stir well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the tomato puree and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the oil starts to separate from the mixture
  • Add the marinated chicken and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
  • Add the heavy cream and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.

Quick Notes

  • Marinate the chicken for at least 1 hour in the fridge to ensure that the flavors of the spices and yogurt are fully absorbed by the meat.
  • Be sure to use fresh spices for the best flavor. If possible, grind your own spices at home using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
  • Use boneless chicken for this dish, as it cooks faster and more evenly than chicken with bones.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, you can adjust the amount of red chili powder to your liking.
  • If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with a little water or chicken broth.
  • To make the dish more visually appealing, garnish it with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
  • Finally, serve the Butter Chicken hot with some warm naan bread or steamed rice for a truly authentic experience.
