Ingredients

  • 1 cup of lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of black salt

  • 1 teaspoon of roasted cumin powder

  • 1 teaspoon of grated ginger

  • 1 liter of water

  • Ice cubes

  • Mint leaves for garnish

Directions

  • In a saucepan, add sugar and water and cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves completely.
  • Add grated ginger, black salt, and roasted cumin powder to the sugar syrup and stir well.
  • Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  • Once the mixture has cooled, add freshly squeezed lemon juice to it and mix well.
  • Pour the lemon sherbet into a jug and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours.
  • When ready to serve, add ice cubes to a glass, pour in the lemon sherbet, and garnish with mint leaves.

Quick Notes

  • Use fresh lemons for the best taste. Avoid using bottled lemon juice as it may contain preservatives and artificial flavors.
  • Adjust the sugar level according to your taste. You can add more or less sugar depending on how sweet you like your sherbet.
  • For a spicier taste, add a pinch of black pepper powder to the recipe.
  • You can also add a few drops of rose water or kewra water to the sherbet for a floral flavor.
  • To make the sharbet more colorful, you can add a few drops of yellow food color to the recipe.
  • Be careful when adding black salt as it has a strong flavor. Add it gradually and taste the sherbet before adding more.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the sherbet through a fine-mesh strainer before serving to remove any pulp or seeds.
  • Serve the Lemon Sherbet (Sharbat) chilled with ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves for a refreshing taste.
