Quick Notes

  • Use good quality basmati rice for the best results. Rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking to remove excess starch.
  • Marinate the chicken in a mixture of yogurt, spices, and lemon juice for at least 30 minutes or overnight to enhance the flavor and tenderness.
  • Sauté onions until golden brown to add a caramelized sweetness to the biryani. This step is crucial for achieving authentic flavors.
  • Layer the rice and chicken in a heavy-bottomed pot or a biryani pot. Add saffron-infused milk or fried onions between the layers for added aroma and richness.
  • Seal the pot with aluminum foil or a tight-fitting lid to trap the steam and ensure the rice cooks evenly and becomes fluffy.
  • Cook the biryani on low heat for about 20-25 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and the rice to fully cook.
  • Let the biryani rest for 10 minutes after cooking to allow the flavors to develop further. Garnish with fresh herbs, fried onions, or nuts before serving.
