When you’re trying to lose weight, you’re going to be surrounded by temptation just about at every turn. There are numerous snacks that some people honestly believe are not so bad when they’re on a diet.
In truth, some foods, or snacks, are just more harmful for those who are trying to lose as much weight as possible. It may not seem to be that big of a deal at the time, but those little snacks can be adding calories, sugar, and even fat to their diet when they’re not even realizing it.
Here are four snacks that are absolutely terrible for anyone focused on weight loss.
Fruit on the bottom varieties of yogurt
There are many different types of ‘fruit on the bottom’ yogurts on the market. Many of these are actually bad for you when trying to lose weight. These might seem like a good thing to have to lose weight, but they contain quite a bit of sugar, up to 26 g of it in a 6 ounce container. If you’re looking to add sugar to your diet for snacks, you might as well have a few cookies, which would equal just about the same amount of sugar intake.
The better alternative is to focus on Greek style yogurt with sliced fruit instead of the processed fruit meals.
Trail mix is one thing, but there are also various types with pieces of chocolate mixed in. This can seem like a healthy snack for a lot of people. After all, with the nuts, raisins, and other beneficial food items in it, a few pieces of chocolate isn’t going to hurt, is it?
It is. When you take just two handfuls of this snack, you’re getting 350 extra calories into your daily diet.
1 ounce of pretzels
Pretzels pack on the sodium like you wouldn’t believe. 1 ounce of salted pretzels can contain 450 mg of sodium. That’s 1/5 of the entire sodium you should be having throughout the day. It’s an easy snack that is commonly thought to be pretty good for you when it comes to weight loss, but it’s actually hurting your chances of losing weight.
A can of diet soda
Zero calorie and diet colas are extremely bad for you. They often contain artificial sweeteners that actually can add weight to your frame. Recent research studies have indicated that diet colas actually cause people to gain weight more than if they were just drinking regular soda.
The best bet when you’re focused on weight loss is to avoid soda altogether. Drinking water, a bit of flavored water, or even sparkling water mixed with a splash of fruit juice or some other fruit slices is a far better option than reaching for the usual soda.
Now that you know some of the worst snacks you can grab when focused on weight loss, hopefully you’re ready to take on the next challenge, which is to get rid of these from your daily diet.
